CHRIS DIFFORD
Thursday 17 July

Lyricist/guitarist Chris Difford teamed with singer/composer Glenn Tilbrook to lead Squeeze, one of the most acclaimed and longest-lived bands to emerge from the new wave era. Often regarded as the Lennon and McCartney of their generation, the duo's smart, sophisticated brand of pop has achieved critical and commercial favor. Singles like "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)," "Tempted", "Black Coffee in Bed" and "Cool For Cats" remain timeless cult classics.

Difford, in collaboration with Glenn Tilbrook, has also composed songs for many popular artists including Squeeze alum Jools Holland, Paul Young, Billy Bremner, and Helen Shapiro.

In April of this year Chris completed a very successful tour with another highly popular and respected folk songwriter, Boo Hewerdine. Chris Difford has performed more frequently as a solo artist in recent years and claims that live performance is now perhaps more welcome than was once the case:

“I enjoy playing live when I’m in control of it. When you’re young, you get chucked in the back of a transit van and you wake up somewhere else. Those times have changed and I’m really thankful they have.”

Joining Chris for this one off and very intimate performance is none other than Matt Deighton. Matt is a prominent singer-songwriter in his own right, with a truly impressive background. In the nineties Matt fronted the successful jazz-funk band 'Mother Earth'. He spent two years playing guitar in Paul Weller’s live band and also enjoyed a well documented stint deputising for Noel Gallagher with Oasis during their European tour.

This promises to be a truly momentous gig in every way. A very rare opportunity to see a modern songwriting legend perform in a warm, intimate and spellbinding atmosphere.
